Baptism Course
Sunday 22 January, 4.30pm

Why be baptised?
First of all, because Jesus said we must. In Matthew 28:19 he told his followers to make disciples of all nations and to baptise them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Secondly, baptism proclaims to others that you are now a true follower of Jesus - it’s a badge if you like, and an initiation into the Christian community. Finally – baptism is, in fact, a funeral and resurrection service all in one: a recognition that your old life has gone for ever and a completely new life has started.

Full immersion or infant baptism?
The Greek word Baptizo means to dip. The same word would be used to dye cloth, that is - to immerse, soak, saturate etc. The sprinkling of infants is not found in the bible, this was introduced into the church some three hundred years after Christ. So we dedicate infants but baptise believers.

Deciding to be baptised is an important decision so we recommend that you sign up to our baptism class, which runs for 3 weeks prior to a baptism service and then there is a follow up week for anyone who does decide to get baptised.
